1. Due to overwhelming response from the earlier sessions on 10 and 18 Nov 2011, the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) is pleased to organise the next Briefing on Enhanced Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices for our members on Tues, 17 Jan 2012.
2. Following Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s call at the 2011 National Day rally for tripartite partners namely unions, employers and the Government to develop guidelines for fair employment and responsible recruitment practices, so that Singaporeans are given fair opportunities in responsible recruitment and career development. The SNEF has been working closely with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices (TAFEP) and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) to develop these guidelines so that reasonable efforts are made by employers to consider Singaporeans for job positions on their merits, and to nurture as well as develop their potential. This will help ensure that Singaporeans remain the core of the workforce.
3. The Enhanced Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices was released on 31 Oct 2011. It indicated that reasonable efforts employers should make to attract and consider Singaporeans for job positions on merit, and to train and develop the potential and careers of Singaporeans. TAFEP and MOM will make reference to this set of guidelines when addressing complaints of alleged unfair employment practices.
4. This joint briefing with the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) will focus on the enhancements to the guidelines and how you can implement the practices in your workplaces.
