Press Statement by the Singapore National Employers Federation on the SARS issue.

SNEF strongly advises all employers to deal with medical leave arising from the home quarantine of some of their workers in a flexible and compassionate manner. For parents with young children affected by the school closure, employers are also advised to be understanding to help them cope with making any special child care arrangements. Co-workers who are affected should also cooperate to deal with any work disruptions that may arise.

SNEF notes that nearly all cases of transmission of the SARS virus have happened at hospitals to people in close contact with very sick people. As such, it is highly unlikely that workplaces have been exposed to the virus. Moreover, the National Environment Agency has quickly identified 861 people who were in contact with the patients and these people have been home quarantined. This will stop the spread of the virus to their co-workers and the community at large.
