Initiated by Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practice (TAFEP), SNEF aims to promote and carry out the 'Responsible Job Adverts' campaign.
This initiative serve to promote the adoption of the Tripartite Guidelines on Non-Discriminatory Job adverts to companies, encouraging and reinforcing the benefits of non-discriminatory recruitment and selection human resource practices.
Employers may post a Responsible Job Advert by clicking on the caption 'Post a Responsible Job Advert', and some grounds of discrimination include:
- Age
Employers should avoid stipulating age as a requirement for employment. However, if a younger person is required to carry out physically demanding work, the required physical attributes or other job-related criteria should be clearly described rather than indicating an age limit.
- Gender
Where practical requirements of the job dictate the need for employees of a particular sex, this must be supported by acceptable rationale.
- Ethnic / Race / Origin
Race should not be a criterion for the selection of job candidates as multiracialism is a fundamental principle in Singapore and selection based on race is unacceptable.
- Marital Status
Marital status is an irrelevant criterion in employment, as jobs can be performed equally well by either married or single persons.
- Religious beliefs
Religion is an unacceptable criterion except in cases where employees have to perform religious functions as part of the job requirement. In such cases, the requirements should be clearly and objectively presented.
- Sexual orientation
Where practical requirements of the job dictate the possibility of such complications, this must be supported by acceptable rationale, for example stay-in of personnel.
- Disability
Employers should avoid mentioning about disability as the roles and responsibilities of the job scope is suffice to indicate the job requirements.
